Vehicle prowl: A subject stole bank cards, a social security card and a vehicle title from inside a vehicle in the 6500 block of West Mercer Way. Mercer Island Police Department reminds community members not to keep their vehicle title inside their car. Also, Washington state does not require drivers to keep a physical copy of the vehicle registration in their vehicle. They must simply be able to show a photo of the registration to an officer that is saved on their phone, for example. This helps to prevent the theft of the physical paper title and registration from their glove box. It also keeps thieves from knowing where the owner lives when they break into a vehicle parked away from home.
