Starting Friday, Mercer Island residents will have several options of places to purchase alcohol when the new law goes into effect on June 1.

On Mercer Island, there will be several places as of Friday to purchase liquor, according to licenses approved by the state’s Liquor Control Board.

Grocery stores on the Island, including both QFC stores and Albertsons will be selling alcohol.

Walgreens, and Rite Aid on the northern end of the Island will also be selling starting Friday.

Shawn Cooprider, who won the Mercer Island liquor store in the state auction last month, said Friday they plan to open the store soon, but are still working on a few things.

“We do plan on being open in the near future,” he said. “It’s going to be a concept store and hopefully Mercer Island will become our flagship.”
