Mercer Island advances to state semis against Bellevue | Prep boys lacrosse

In their first appearance of the 2012 state tournament, the Mercer Island boys lacrosse team quickly dispatched Bellarmine Prep to advance to the state semifinals. The Islanders will take on Bellevue in the next round.

UPDATE: The Islanders will take on Bellevue in the state semifinals on Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at Mercer Island High School.

The winner will play the winner of the King’s Way vs. Eastside Catholic game on Saturday, May 26 at 6 p.m. in the state championship game at Memorial Stadium.

 

In their first appearance of the 2012 state tournament, the Mercer Island boys lacrosse team quickly dispatched Bellarmine Prep to advance to the state semifinals. The Islanders will take on Bellevue in the next round.

Friday night the Islanders won 11-5 over the Lions. Mercer Island started off with a slow 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but added six in the second to make it a 7-2 game at halftime. Bellarmine posted two goals in the third, holding the Islanders to just one, but Mercer Island continued their dominance in the fourth with three addition points.

Connor Bernal had four goals in the game, with eight ground balls, while teammate Grant Preisler added three goals. Steen Swedstedt had two goals in the win, with Pete Mahony adding one, as did Mikey Schwartz. Hayden Reisman had an assist and two ground balls, with goalie Carlos Barrios making 11 saves.

The Islanders, now 15-6 this season, will take on Bellevue in the state semifinals on Wednesday, May 23.

The teams have played each other once this season, earlier in May, with Bellevue getting the 8-7 win.
