The Mercer Island School District band and orchestra programs announced the names of 30 Mercer Island High School (MIHS) and Islander Middle School (IMS) students who have earned recognition in the All-Northwest and All-State honor ensembles.

“Selection to one of these ensembles is a tribute to years of hard work,” said high school and middle school music teacher David Bentley. “Congratulations to these fine musicians and the Mercer Island community that supports them.”

The All-State musicians, selected based on audition tapes in a blind audition, will represent Mercer Island at the Washington Music Educators Association state conference in Spokane, Wash., from Feb. 12-15. In a similar process, the All-Northwest musicians are selected every other year from students in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. They will meet to rehearse and perform with renowned conductors in Spokane, Wash., this February as well.

“Congratulations to all of these students on their success,” said MIHS Principal Vicki Puckett. “It is a testament to the hard work of our students and teachers both collectively and individually.”
