The Mercer Island beat Liberty on Tuesday, Sept. 25 in a home meet at Mary Wayte Pool. The Islanders won 136-49.
So far this season, Mercer Island is 5-0 in dual meets and beat Kennedy Catholic last week 130-55.
Against the Patriots, the Islanders won the 200 medley relay race with a time of 1:59.48, with the group of Alex Seidel, Kira Godfred, Christina Williamson and Cailtin Cox. The team of Sabrina Kwan, Grace Wolf, Rachel Hecker and Andrea Hatsukami finished in second place in 1:59.73.
In the 200 freestyle event, Liberty’s Mackenna Briggs took first place with a state qualifying time of 1:58.20. Mercer Island’s Danielle Deiparine was second in 1:59.70, while Masami Cookson was third in 2:03.27.
Cox won the 200 individual medley race, finishing in a state qualifying time of 2:15.72, while Esther Choe was third overall for the Islanders in 2:29.97. Sabrina Steinhauer was fourth in 2:42.09.
In the 50 freestyle race, Seidel was first in 25.25 seconds, with Williamson in second at 25.84, followed by Hatsukami in third in 27.14.
Meg Lindsay won the diving comeptition at the start of the meet. She earned 188.65 points, while Christina Sargent from Liberty was second with 155.40 points. Islander Hadley Michaels finished third with 129 points.
Mercer Island’s Leah Fisk was second in the 100 butterfly race with a 1:05.58 time, just seconds behind winner Ellie Hohensinner who won with a 1:05.45 time.
Wold won the 100 freestyle race in 55.56 seconds, a state qualifying time. Deiparine was second in 56.31, followed by Kwan in 57.80 to qualify for districts.
Seidel earned her second individual win of the meet in the 500 freestyle, earning a spot at districts in 5:29.21. Williamson was second, while Michelle Na was fourth.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Williamson, Margaret Seaton, Seidel and Deiparine teamed up to win in 1:44.10, qualifying for state. Second place went to Islanders Hatsukami, Cookson, Fisk and Olsen. who had a 1:46.75 time.
Wold also won the 100 backstroke race, finished in 57.80. Angela Riggins was third overall in 1:08.52, followed by Lindsay White in fourth place in 1:09.85.
In the 100 breast stroke race, Cox finished in first place with a 1:14.84 time, with Kwan in second and Godfred in third.
Mercer Island won the final event of the meet, taking the 400 freestyle crown with a time of 3:52.33 with the team of Cox, Kwan, Wold and Deiparine. The Islanders team of White, Koksu, Cookson and Fisk finished in second place with a time of 4:00.64.
The Islanders will host Bellevue at 3:30 p.m. at Mary Wayte Pool on Thursday, Sept. 27.
