Mercer Island boys basketball won its matchup with Puyallup 57-52 at the King Holiday Hoopfest Monday at Bellevue College. Leading 16-8 after one, the Islanders (11-5, 6-1) managed to hold off a strong second-half effort from the Vikings. Andrew Pickles led the Islanders in scoring with 16, while Sam Nordale had 14.

Mercer Island will take on Juanita at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at Juanita High School.
