The Mercer Island girls basketball team won their first KingCo match on Friday, Dec. 7, beating Sammamish in the final minutes of the game. The final score was 54-53.

The Mercer Island girls basketball team won their first KingCo match on Friday, Dec. 7, beating Sammamish in the final minutes of the game. The final score was 54-53.

Sammamish led in the first half 28-26, and continued to lead through the third quarter, but Mercer Island edged the Totems in the final quarter, scoring 18 while holding Sammamish to 14 to take the win.

Renae Tessem had 12 points in the game, while Julia Blumenstein added 11 for the team. Jessica Blakeslee had 10 points. Kris Brackmann had nine points in the win, while Christina Williamson posted six and Rachael Tessem had four points. Jamie Mounger had two points during the game.

Mercer Island will host Juanita on Friday, Dec. 14 in a KingCo match, and will play Mount Si on Saturday, Dec. 15. Both games will begin at 6:30 p.m.
