Totems top boys golf
Sammamish dealt Mercer Island its first KingCo loss of the season Tuesday, beating the Islanders 184-190 at Bellevue Municipal Golf Course.
Sammamish’s Aidan Thain won medalist honors, shooting a 35 on the front nine. Will Mansfield posted a 36 to tie Sammamish’s Jacob Riley for a second-place finish, while Drew Christofferson tied with Sammamish’s Matt Marrese for a fourth-place finish, with both shooting a 37 for the day.
Mercer Island will try to bounce back against Liberty at 2:56 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at Maplewood Golf Course.
Boys water polo beats Newport
After claiming a 7-0 lead in the opening period of its matchup with Newport, Mercer Island boys water polo held off a late rally from the Knights, winning 15-10 at Mercer Island Country Club. Jack Larkin led the Islanders in scoring with five goals, while Trevor Gullstad scored three and Erik Raisys and Topher Lacrampe each pitched in two.
Mercer Island will take on Roosevelt for their second matchup of the season, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at Helene Madison Pool.
