Mercer Island competes at annual Bellevue Invitational | Prep track and field

The Mercer Island track and field team, fresh off of hosting a home meet on Thursday, traveled to the annual Bellevue Invitational meet on Saturday, April 20 at Bellevue High School.

In the 100 meter event, Risley Lesko finished in eighth place in 11.41 seconds. He took 19th overall in the 200 meter race in 23.80 seconds.

In the 400 meter race, Ethan Vu was 15th overall in 53.01, while Travis Gallatin finished in 51st place in 57.10. Dylan Lesko finished the 800 meter event in 2:01.49 for ninth place, while Nathan Gallatin finished in 11th place in 2:03.22 and Johnathan Perr finished in 2:13.02 for 38th place.

In the 1,600 meter race, Eric Shulz finished in fourth place in 4:26.05 and Nathan Cummings finished in 10th in 4:28.05. Ian Platou finished in 50th, Daniel Mayer in 64th, Teddy Larkin finished in 108th, Seattle Thunder in 125th, Ian Scneiderman in 146th, Luke Mounger in 184th and Kyle Weiss in 202nd place.

Matthew Wotipka finished the 3,200 meter race in 12th place in 9:34.21, while John Gallagher finished in 27th place in the 110 meter hurdles race in 18.01.

The Mercer Island boys 4×400 relay team of Emerson Schulz, Eric Schulz, Nathan Gallatin and Ethan Vu finished in third place in 3:32.35.

In the field events, Sean Pyne finished in 30th place in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet and 10 inches. Freshman Dylan Majewski finished in 36th place in the discus with a throw of 101’07. In the javelin competition, Majewski finished in 47th place with a toss of 106 feet event, while Collin Niccoll finished in 51st place at 99’10.

In the girls competition, Laura Harrison took fifth overall in the 26.40 seconds in the 100 meter race. She also finished fifth in the 400 meter race in 59.46 seconds.

Alida Scalzo was ninth overall in the 800 meters in 2:25.84, while Rhiannon Holmes finished in 23rd place in 2:37.17.

Scalzo finished in 10th place in the 1,600 meter event, finishing in 5:18.52, while Sarah Bjarnason was 29th in 5:36.41. Brianna Meehan took 51st in the race in 5:54.21.

Alexa Bauman finished the 3,200 meter race in 11:40.92 to finish in 17th place overall, followed by Linden Elggren in 21st place in 11:46.22. CeCe Rosenman was 24th overall in 11:55.48.

In the 100 meter hurdle event, Lindsay Lightfoot finished in 20th in 17.53, while Sydney Zeldes was 44th overall in 18.96. Zeldes finished in 25th place in the 300 meter hurdle race. She finished the event in 54.97 seconds, followed by Jolie Tate in 43rd place in 55.93.

In the girls shot put competition, Emily Bassett finished in eighth place with a toss of 31’07, while Carly Ledbetter finished in 29th at 27’01. Katherine Hendrikson finished the shot put in 42nd place in 25’04. Bassett also finished the discus in 41st place in 69’04, while Hendrikson thew the javelin 74’09 for 26th place.

Kris Brackmann cleared 4’8 in the high jump for eighth place, while Emily Lightfoot finished in 27th place after clearing 4’4.

The Islanders will host Mount Si and Lake Washington on Thursday, April 25 in a 4 p.m. meet at Mercer Island High School.
