Mercer Island girls lacrosse season ends in quarterfinals | Prep notebook

The Mercer Island girls Division I lacrosse team began and ended its season in the first round of the state playoffs this week.

The Islanders’ first game of the playoffs was against Lake Sammamish on Monday night at MIHS.

The Islanders lost 16-15 in an upset to finish their season. Mercer Island was ahead in the final moments of the game, but a goal from Kate Wagner gave the visiting team the win.

The girls Division II also started the playoffs this week, facing Kennedy on Tuesday night, after Reporter deadline.

A win would move the Division II team into the semifinals against the Overlake/Ballard game on Thursday night.

The state championship game for girls lacrosse will take place on Saturday, May 15, at Eastside Catholic High School.

Boys lacrosse closes out regular season

The Mercer Island boys lacrosse team will finish up its regular season this week with two games.

The Islanders will face Eastside Catholic on Tuesday night, after Reporter deadline, and will host Bellevue on Friday at Islander Stadium at 8 p.m.
