Mercer Island girls soccer loses to Bellevue 2-1

Next chance to advance to state tournament will be Thursday, Nov. 7 at Liberty High School.

The Mercer Island girls soccer team lost their 3A KingCo second-round matchup against Bellevue 2-1 Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Bellevue High School.

A defensive battle in the first half kept the game scoreless at halftime. Bellevue struck first in the second half on an own goal by the Islanders. The Wildcats scored again with a goal in the 50th minute from Sabrina Mohazzabfar. Mercer Island rallied, leading to a penalty kick by senior Kianna Chang to put the Islanders on the board. The loss marked Mercer Island’s first loss in their last 10 games.

Mercer Island still has a chance to advance to the district playoffs. The Islanders travel to Liberty High School to square off against the Patriots Thursday, Nov. 7. The winner will go to the state tournament as the KingCo #2 seed.
