Last week, Mercer Island Lacrosse Club players organized a food drive and delivered a truckload of food to the Mercer Island Food Pantry, one of the programs supported by the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Foundation.
The food pantry is found at administration building in Luther Burbank Park, and is used by hundreds of low-income Mercer Island families throughout the year.
Contributions of local organizations, churches, families and service clubs are depended on to replenish the pantry, and at this time of year, the pantry typically runs low on food donations.
MILC board member Kelly Thilen and senior Will Bassett led organization of the drive. As the MI lacrosse program expands and becomes more popular, the club and players are finding ways to donate time and resources to those in need both on and off the Island.
