Mercer Island murder mystery: A new look at an old case

Tom Hitzroth, Chair of the City of Redmond Landmarks Commission, will share the results of his personal detective work on an old Mercer Island case.

On Feb. 8, 1886, two men were ambushed on the south end of Mercer Island. George Miller, who was in a land dispute with one of them, was tried four times for murder. Was Miller an innocent man? On Saturday, Jan. 9, Tom Hitzroth, Chair of the City of Redmond Landmarks Commission, will share the results of his personal detective work.

The presentation is part of the Redmond Historical Society’s Saturday Speaker Series, a monthly program that features eight speakers addressing topics of local, state and Pacific Northwest historical interest.

The series is held from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, located at 16600 N.E. 80th St. in Redmond. Doors open at 10 a.m. $5 suggested donation for non-members. Speakers subject to change. For more, visit www.redmondhistoricalsociety.org.
