The Open Space Conservancy Trust board will host a forum on dogs in Pioneer Park as part of its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on May 19 at City Hall.
This will be a chance for the public to provide input and offer solutions to reduce conflicts between park users and off-leash dogs in the northwest quadrant of Pioneer Park. Each speaker will have three minutes to present their opinions.
The board will consider a range of options for dog owners who walk their dogs in the northwest quadrant. City code currently allows dogs to be on-leash or under voice or signal control in the northwest quadrant of Pioneer Park, as well as in most other parks and public open spaces. However, the code requires owners of dogs under voice or signal control to restrain their dogs from approaching other park users and prevent them from damaging park property. A dog is not considered under control if it chases, jumps on or displays aggression toward people or animals.
