A man living in the 8100 block of S.E. 77th Place called to report two males trespassing through his garage on July 29. According to the police report, the man was sleeping in the garage with his children when he awoke to find two males walking through. The two men then opened the garage refrigerator. The owner of the house yelled at the men, who ran to a white SUV parked on the street and drove away northbound. Nothing was taken from the garage.

Trespass

Arrests

Mercer Island police arrested a Mountlake Terrace man with a misdemeanor warrant in a park at 9611 S.E. 36th St. at 1:55 a.m. on Aug. 1. The man had a Mercer Island warrant for driving with a revoked license. MIPD met the Seattle Police Department to swap the man over. He was transported to the Issaquah Jail.

A Mercer Island man was caught shoplifting from Albertsons on July 27. According to the police report, the man took six bottles of body wash and four bottles of Boone’s Farm Wine from the store. Two witnesses saw the man run from the store and pointed his location out to the MIPD officer. The suspect was located and identified by a witness. He was arrested and searched. Police found a crack pipe, pocket knife and cigarette lighter on the man. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Mercer Island police arrested a Federal Way man with a misdemeanor warrant in the 1700 block of N.E. 44th Street on July 25. A $1,000 King County warrant was out on the man’s name for driving with a revoked license. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

The Mercer Island Marine Patrol arrested a man for operating a vehicle in a reckless manner on July 26. According to the police report, an officer stopped the boat because its operator was driving with a light violation. The officer smelled alcohol and the driver admitted that he had been drinking. He refused to take a standard field sobriety test. He was transported to the Mercer Island Police Department, where his blood alcohol (BAC) level was checked. He showed a BAC of .101 and .100. He was released to a sober adult.

Police pulled a Seattle man over in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive on July 25 due to expired tabs. Upon closer inspection, the police noticed that the man smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking one glass of wine and failed to pass a standard field sobriety test. Police arrested the man and brought him to the Mercer Island Police Department. He showed a BAC of .09 and .087. He was released to a sober adult friend.

Mercer Island police arrested a woman with five outstanding warrants on July 24. According to the police report, an officer pulled the woman over in the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street for an equipment violation. The woman gave a fake name and date of birth, which failed to register in a computer check. The driver then confessed her true identity and the officer discovered five King County warrants — for a felony, misdemeanor, refusing to cooperate with an officer, and driving with a revoked license — on her name. She was booked into the King County Jail on two no-bail warrants.

Mercer Island police pulled a woman over in the 2600 block of 80th Avenue S.E. for driving with expired tabs on July 24. A computer check revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle was known to be the girlfriend of a male suspect with a felony warrant for his arrest. A passenger in the car matched a police description of the suspect. Although a computer check revealed that the passenger was not the suspected man, a different misdemeanor warrant showed up on his name. The passenger was arrested and booked into the King County Jail.

Accidents

A man drove into a ditch off West Mercer Way on July 28 shortly before 72nd Place S.E. The man was driving southbound in the 3600 block of West Mercer Way. According to the police report, he was exceeding the 30 mph speed limit. Unable to make a sharp curve in the road, the driver slammed on his brakes and skidded into the ditch, hitting a utility pole. The driver and his passenger were transported to Swedish Hospital for medical examination. No injuries were recorded at the site of the accident.

A two-vehicle accident occurred between a Honda and a motorcycle on West Mercer Way on July 30. According to the police report, the Honda was heading southbound on West Mercer Way and slowed to take a right turn on S.E. 58th Street. The motorcycle was coming around the curve behind and failed to slow down in time to prevent colliding with the rear of the Honda. The motorcycle driver, a Kent resident, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered possible groin, upper leg, abdominal and neck injuries. He was transported to Overlake hospital in Bellevue.

Theft

A man living in the 2900 block of 76th Avenue S.E. reported that two bicycles were stolen from his garage on July 27. The theft took place sometime between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The approximate loss is $700.

A woman living in the 3200 block of 74th Avenue S.E. reported a burglary on July 5. According to the report, the woman’s residence was entered sometime between July 2 and July 5, using her hide-a-key. Two digital cameras and two iPods were stolen from inside the house.

A man living in the 8600 block of S.E. 44th Street reported that his shed was broken into overnight on July 24. A John Deer lawn mower was stolen. The approximate loss is $1,800.

An Island couple reported that their storage lockers were broken into sometime between July 12 and July 24. According to the police report, the couple noticed that the locks on their lockers were damaged. Upon further inspection, they saw that several items had been stolen, including a National Hockey League Toronto Maple Leafs’ T-shirt signed by Mat Sudin and a Links Brand dual-face mantel clock, along with other garments. The total loss is about $375. The couple lives in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street. Other storage lockers in the building were also broken into, according to the police report.

Abandoned

An abandoned vessel was discovered in the waters near the 4100 block of Boulevard Place on July 24. All attempts to contact the registered owner failed. The vessel was impounded.

Found

An iPod was found on a playfield at the South end of Mercer Island. Call Warren at (206) 725-7500.
