Mercer Island Police Blotter | Feb. 2

A man called police concerning some old fireworks which he found in his garage while cleaning on Jan. 20. The fireworks were turned into the MIPD for destruction.

Thefts

A man reported that his vehicle was stolen from in front of his residence on Ferncroft Road on Jan. 21. The theft occurred sometime during the night of Jan. 20. The owner was not sure if the vehicle was locked, but he still had possession of the keys. Another vehicle was stolen from the same residence in November 2009.

A man reported to police that his home, in the 2400 block of 65th Place S.E., was burglarized on Jan. 25. He came home in the evening and found that someone had forced entry into the home through a basement bedroom window. Electronic equipment, including 25 Blu-Ray DVDs, video games, a computer, television, stereo and a Nintendo Wii were stolen.

An attempted burglary was reported on Jan. 28 in the 7400 block of S.E. 71st Street. The reporting party said he was in his house when he heard the dog barking at the garage door. He reported hearing the garage door open, went into the garage and saw the suspect standing in the driveway approaching the entry to the garage. The suspect saw the resident and ran down the driveway to a waiting car on the street, which left the scene.

Malicious mischief

A homeowner on S.E. 43rd Street found a broken window at his house on Jan. 18, but reported the incident to police on Jan. 21 after discovering that several neighbors had had a similar occurrence. The incident likely took place sometime between Jan. 13 and Jan. 18.

A homeowner on Westbrook Lane reported a broken window on Jan. 21, similar to his neighbors, which likely took place sometimes between Jan. 13 and Jan. 18. The reporting party found two rocks in the grass, one under the broken garage window, where it appeared that someone had thrown at least three rocks in an attempt to break the glass.

Malicious mischief was reported in the 4400 block of East Mercer Way on Jan. 28 after a mailbox door and the address numbers were ripped off of a mailbox. There are no suspects.

Citations

Police pulled over a car on S.E. 36th Street on Jan. 22 for a license infraction. The driver, from Tacoma, was driving with a third-degree suspended license. The male was cited and released, and the car was impounded.

Fraud

Police were called on Jan. 22 after someone tried to order computer equipment online using the reporting party’s American Express credit card number. The transaction was denied by American Express.

Arrests

Police arrested a man and a woman on Jan. 23 in the 2600 block of Island Crest Way, after their vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation. Upon further investigation, the driver, a male, was found to be driving with a suspended license and booked into the Issaquah Jail, and the female passenger was arrested for a felony warrant and transferred to the Everett Police. In the vehicle, the police found several prescription bottles, not prescribed to either party.

A man was arrested on Jan. 23 in the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street during a traffic stop after it was discovered that he had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest in Bellevue. The subject was transferred to Bellevue Police.

Police stopped a vehicle on Jan. 25 in the 2800 block of 77th Avenue S.E., after a license check showed the vehicle’s license had been canceled due to a dishonored check. The driver, who did not have identification, was found to have a suspended license. He was arrested and transported to the MIPD, where he was processed and released.

A woman with an outstanding MIPD warrant was arrested by Auburn Police on Jan. 26. She was booked into the Renton Jail.

A driver was arrested after police stopped a vehicle with no front license plate in the 4300 block of Island Crest Way on Jan. 27. A computer check found the driver had a suspended license. The driver was arrested and transported to the MIPD.

Dog fight

The reporting party called police on Jan. 26 after his Papillon was attacked by another dog on 74th Avenue S.E. The victim’s dog sustained minor injuries to the abdomen, and the man was not injured.

Domestic dispute

Police were called concerning a verbal disturbance between the reporting party and her husband on Jan. 23 in the 9300 block of S.E. 68th Street. The parties separated, and the husband agreed to leave the residence for the evening.

Abandoned

A vehicle was abandoned at the intersection of 77th Avenue S.E. and North Mercer Way on Jan. 24. The vehicle was impounded by Mercer Island Towing.

Vehicle prowls

A woman reported that her car was prowled while it was parked in the 8200 block of North Mercer Way on Jan. 26, while she was inside the house. Approximately $8,500 worth of items was stolen, including Versace sunglasses, a black leather jacket and several cashier’s checks.

A vehicle was prowled on Jan. 26 in the 8700 block of S.E. 71st Street. The reporting party said the vehicle was locked. The driver’s door window was smashed, causing approximately $150 worth of damage to the vehicle. A black leather briefcase was stolen.

A woman called police after her vehicle was prowled while parked in the north Luther Burbank Park lot on Jan. 28. The rear driver side window was smashed and a purse, containing keys and a wallet, was stolen from the car.
