Theft
A teenage boy came home from school on Feb. 17 to discover that his Mac Book Pro had been stolen from his room. His mother reported that several items of jewelry had also been stolen from her bedroom dresser. Nothing else was reported missing. There was no sign of forced entry into the home, located in the 8200 block of S.E. 41st Street.
A teenager living in the 3400 block of 77th Place S.E. reported that he came home on Feb. 17 to find two X-Box game consoles missing from his house. The residents believe that the thief entered through an unlocked door in the back of the house. No other items were reported stolen.
An Island woman reported that an Apple laptop which she ordered was stolen after FedEx misdelivered the computer. According to the police report, the victim bought the laptop online and FedEx sent it to the wrong address on Feb. 9. The computer was not returned.
A wrapped present and work jacket were stolen from an unlocked Nissan Pathfinder, parked in the 5200 block of East Mercer Way on Feb. 13. According to the police report, there are no suspects. The present contained pajamas.
Accidents
A cyclist was struck by a car at the intersection of East Mercer Way and the I-90 off-ramp on Feb. 13. According to the police report, the driver stated that as he entered the intersection, planning to turn left while the light was yellow, he struck the cyclist because he didn’t see her in time. The cyclist said that she entered the intersection while the light was green for her. She was struck about halfway across the intersection. She sustained an injury to her left knee when she hit the ground. A witness parked at the line for northbound traffic claimed that the cyclist exited the pathway from his right, cut in front of him and headed diagonally toward the intersection. He said that she was going quite fast. He saw the car hit the cyclist, but did not see if the driver’s light was yellow or green. The woman was transported to Virginia Mason Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. The officer reported that the primary cause of the accident was that the cyclist entered the intersection at an angle, making it hard for the driver to see her in time. The case was forwarded to the Mercer Island Prosecutor for consideration.
A two-car collision occurred on S.E. 40th Street on Feb. 14. According to the police report, a car slowed down to pull into a private driveway on the left side of the road. The vehicle behind this car did not slow down fast enough and struck the car from behind. According to the police report, the victim said that the driver of the second car “came out of nowhere.” The driver of the second car admitted that she was going too fast and did not see the first car turning. Neither party could remember whether the turning vehicle had its blinker on. The woman in the second car received an infraction for following a vehicle too closely.
Arrests
Police pulled over a couple in the 2800 block of 78th Avenue on Feb. 16 for a traffic infraction. The driver was discovered to have been driving with a suspended license. The passenger, who was observed to have been driving earlier, also had a suspended license and a misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest. The man was turned over to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Police arrested a Seattle man for driving with a suspended license on Feb. 16. The man was pulled over in the 8100 block of S.E. 24th Street. He was arrested and booked into the Issaquah Jail.
Car prowl
An Island man reported that his Honda Accord was prowled while parked, unlocked, in the 7300 block of 85th Avenue S.E. on Feb. 1. According to the police report, about $240 worth of items was stolen from the car, including a Garmin GPS and three pairs of ladies’ driving gloves. The car was parked at the victim’s residence.
Vandalism
An unknown suspect smashed the window of a residence in the 7800 block of S.E. 24th Street while the owner was home on Feb. 16. According to the police report, the suspect fled the scene when a neighbor witnessed the incident and yelled at him. An adjustable end wrench was found inside the house and taken for prints. The suspect matches a description of the homeowner’s son.
Trespassing
A woman living in the 8600 block of S.E. 71st Street reported that she saw a teenage male trespass through her driveway and into her garage on Feb. 14. According to the police report, the woman did not give the suspect permission to enter her property. The detached garage was across from the entry walkway to the front door of the woman’s house. According to the police report, the teenager was arrested for trespassing.
