Accidents

A witness reported a drunk-driving collision in the 4700 block of Island Crest Way on June 26. According to the incident report, the witness saw the collision and watched as four teenage occupants in the vehicle fled the scene. One occupant, however, did not flee due to injury. Police later located the driver of the car. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol. A breathalyzer was conducted. The driver failed. Other occupants of the car were also located. A search of the vehicle revealed a case of Busch beer with seven cans inside.

A man living in the 3700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. witnessed a 1993 Oldsmobile crash into a telephone pole outside of his residence on June 26. According to the police report, the man heard the crash, looked out his window and saw the damaged vehicle. He went out to the car and discovered that it had been abandoned. The airbags had been deployed. A neighbor reported hearing the accident and seeing a white male wander away from the scene and urinate behind one of her cars. Police contacted the car’s driver. He had bruises concurrent with the deployment of airbags. The man failed a breathalyzer test and was arrested for a hit and run.

Theft

A woman living in the 2400 block of 65th Place S.E. reported that her wedding and engagement ring was stolen sometime between June 7 and June 16. According to the report, the woman had left the ring in a drawer in her bathroom. The woman lives with her mother, who is having her house remodeled and has had numerous workers inside the residence.

A man living in the 9100 block of S.E. 54th Street reported that the rear window of his Mercedes-Benz was shattered on June 25. According to the incident report, $1,300 worth of personal items was stolen from the car. The cost of repairing the rear window was estimated at $800. Police were unable to find any suspect information. Fingerprints and photos were taken at the scene.

A man living in the 3500 block of 84th Avenue S.E. reported that a UPS package containing four cable converter boxes from Comcast was stolen from the front entryway of his house on June 24. The total loss is $400.

An Island woman reported that a white female in her 20s and a black male in his late 20s or early 30s picked her purse at McDonalds between 6:45 p.m. and 7:18 p.m. on June 19. The victim’s business card holder was later recovered from a neighboring bench seat at the McDonalds fast food restaurant.

Arrests

A Mercer Island police officer stopped a man for speeding in the 3700 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. on June 22. The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver stated that he and the passenger in the back seat had smoked a large amount of marijuana. He later added that his friend still had marijuana on him. The passenger confessed and was arrested. Police found two grams of the drug after searching the young man.

An officer arrested a Tacoma man for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over in the 3600 block of 93rd Avenue S.E. on June 23. The driver admitted that he was the registered owner of the vehicle. The officer arrested the man and booked him into the Issaquah Jail. The man also had a misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest.

A police officer arrested a 14-year-old male for illegally lighting off fireworks in a park in the 3200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. on June 25. The officer confiscated the chain of Blackcat firecrackers.

Car prowls

A number of car prowls were reported on 72nd Place, 73rd and 74th Avenues S.E. on June 18. According to the police reports, 10 cars in the neighborhood were either prowled or rummaged through. A number of residents reported that cash and debit cards were stolen from their cars. One female resident in the 3000 block of 72nd Place S.E. reported that her purse, which contained $15 in cash, had been taken. All of the cars prowled had been left unlocked. The thefts took place during the night of June 17.

A woman living in the 2700 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. reported seeing a man prowl her car on June 23. The woman alerted the suspect of her presence, and the suspect fled the scene. An MIPD officer and Bellevue K-9 team tried to track the suspect, but were unsuccessful. The only item reported stolen was a pair of sunglasses.

A Honda was prowled in the 9000 block of North Shorewood Drive on June 24. According to the incident report, the woman said her car was prowled while parked in the public parking lot at Shorewood Apartments. The driver door window was broken, and the woman’s purse was stolen. The prowl occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. on June 23 and 9 a.m. on June 24.

Mischief

A city park employee discovered an oily type of accelerant on the floor of a bathroom stall in the restrooms at Lid Park on June 18. According to the incident report, the accelerant had been used to help burn all of the toilet paper from the bathroom stall.

Found

Three flare gun bullets were discovered in the 9600 block of S.E. 36th Street on June 17. The bullets were turned over to Mercer Island police for destruction.

The associate principal of Mercer Island High School discovered a bag of marijuana in a hallway of the school on June 19. The narcotic was turned over to police.

A man discovered a stun gun on Mercer Island High School property on June 22. The gun was turned into police.

Fraud

An Island man reported that somebody fraudulently used his credit card to buy an airline ticket with Delta Airlines sometime on June 22. The amount of the transaction was $2,937.85.

A woman reported that seven fraudulent checks were cashed from her U.S. Bank checking account on June 24. The checks were written between June 5 and June 23.
