Burglary

Police tracked down and arrested two burglary suspects with the help of a K-9 unit on March 8. The suspects were located in the 4300 block of Forest Avenue S.E. According to the police report, both suspects were associated with a vehicle reported stolen in Seattle. The recovered vehicle was searched with permission of its owner and released to her at the scene. During the processing of stolen property/evidence, additional burglary cases from the Seattle Police Department and the King County Police Department were identified.

A woman living in the 4000 block of West Mercer Way reported a burglary on March 8. According to the police report, the woman woke up in the night to hear somebody walking around upstairs, opening drawers and cabinets. She called 911 to report the incident. Police arrived shortly after 4 a.m. to find property strewn along the driveway. A K-9 unit attempted to track the thief to no avail. The woman reported that her purse was stolen, which included $120. A black Jansport backpack was taken, along with the proximity keyset for her Toyota Highlander Hybrid, a Nikon Coolpix camera, Samsung notebook/laptop, Motorola Razor cell phone and Apple iPhone. Police found a bag of Cheetos and bottle of Mike’s Hard Lime in the driveway. The woman’s Highlander, which was left unlocked, was also prowled before the burglary, the report said.

A woman living in the 4300 block of Forest Avenue S.E. reported a burglary on the night of March 7 after hearing noises in her house. According to the police report, officers arrived to find suspects exiting the house with a TV. Two suspects, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old from Seattle, fled the scene. A K95 and Harbor 6 team located the suspects, who were interviewed by detectives and booked into King County Juvenile Detention. Among the items stolen and recovered were: various clothing, including fur, a ring and bracelet, car keys, cash, a purse, Apple computer and Samsung Television.

Car prowls

A couple living in the 9200 block of S.E. 33rd Street reported that their Chrysler 300 and Audi were prowled on the night of March 3. According to the police report, the thief stole approximately $600 in items, including currency, gift certificates, a Shell credit card, black sweater and pair of Chanel sunglasses. The sweater and Shell credit card were recovered and returned to the owner.

A man living in the 3400 block of 97th Avenue S.E. reported that his Subaru Legacy was prowled on the night of March 3. The items stolen were recovered in the area and returned.

Minors in consumption

A man living in the 9100 block of S.E. 42nd Street reported that he saw five male juveniles consuming alcohol in the north Mercer Island High School parking lot. When police arrived at the scene, the juveniles were gone. A Washington Department of Licensing computer check of the suspects led police to the father of one of the boys. The man called his two sons, picked them up and brought them to the scene, where they were interviewed and given Breathalyzer tests. The subjects were then released to their parents.

Sexting

The mother of a 13-year-old girl called police to report that her daughter had received obscene photos on her cell phone from an unknown suspect on March 9.

Vandalism

Two teenage boys were written up for reckless burning in the second degree on March 10 after they set fire to toilet paper and placed it next to Mercer Island High School. A witness reported the incident and was able to positively identify the two 16-year-olds.

Arrests

A woman living in the 3200 block of West Concord Way called 911 on March 8 to report suspicious males in an area known to be a place of drug activity. Officers arrived at the scene and found three teenage males smoking marijuana from a bong. Police contacted the teenagers and arrested two for being in possession of marijuana.

Police arrested a drunk driver who was “all over the road” in the westbound lanes of I-90 on March 7. According to the police report, the officer attempted a standard field sobriety test, but the driver did not speak English. He took a Breathalyzer with the results of .126. He was arrested and processed at the Mercer Island Police Station.

Four juveniles were arrested with minor in possession citations when their car was stopped in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. for having a burned-out headlight on March 7. According to the police report, the victims were approached at a traffic stop. The driver was asked to take a blood alcohol test and blew .06. He was written up as a minor being in physical control of a vehicle after consuming alcohol.

Police arrested a Seattle man for driving without a license on March 6. The man was processed and released. His vehicle was impounded.

Fraud

A woman living in the 3900 block of S.E. Gallagher Hill Road reported a suspicious check from a person relating to an item she had for sale on Craigslist. The check was for a large amount over the cost of the item, and the suspect requested the overage to be returned via Western Union.

An Island woman reported that an unknown suspect obtained her MasterCard number and used it to make an unauthorized purchase on March 9. According to the incident report, the bank card company alerted her to the transaction. The bank stopped the transaction and issued the woman a new card.

Theft

A resident at Mercer Island Care and Rehabilitation reported that $100 was stolen from her unsecured room on March 4.
