Accidents
A pedestrian was hit by a car at the intersection of Island Crest Way and S.E. 68th Street on Nov. 6. According to the police report, the woman was crossing S.E. 68th street when a truck approached and struck her while making a left turn onto the same street. The driver of the truck claimed that he did not see the woman crossing, as he was watching another car. Paramedics were called to the scene, as the woman was bleeding from the head. No further information was available on the woman’s recovery.
A bumper-to-bumper collision occurred in the 4300 block of Island Crest Way on Nov. 7. According to the police report, a car was driving southbound on Island Crest Way when the vehicle in front of it slowed to a near stop. The driver of the second car could not slow down in time and collided with the back of the first vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Arrests
Police arrested a 16-year-old Islander for possession of marijuana on Nov. 9. According to the police report, the teenager was stopped for a traffic violation. When the officer spoke to the teen, he noticed an odor of marijuana. The subject handed over the drug willingly.
A Mercer Island woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Nov. 9 after being pulled over in the 7700 block of S.E. 27th Street. According to the police report, a computer check revealed the information and so the woman was pulled over. She was identified as the owner of the vehicle and was arrested. The woman’s 4-year-old son, also in the car at the time, was turned over to the subject’s boyfriend.
Dog attack
An Island man reported that a dog attacked his own dog while walking in the 4100 block of 100th Avenue S.E. on Nov. 9. According to the police report, the man was walking home from the Mercer Island Shore Club with his children and dog when a dog came running out toward his pet. The fight between the two dogs lasted approximately 30 seconds. The man separated the dogs and later noticed that his pet had a few lacerations inside its ear. The case has been referred to King County Animal Control for follow-up.
Car prowls
An Island man reported that his Honda Civic was broken into sometime during the night of Nov. 6. According to the police report, the thief stole a GPS unit from inside the car, which was parked in the 4000 block of 90th Avenue S.E. The approximate value is $300.
A number of car prowls were reported on Nov. 9. A woman living in the 2400 block of 64th Avenue S.E. reported that her Toyota and Honda were broken into on the night of Nov. 8. According to the police report, the windows of both cars were shattered, and various items — including a CD with digital photos and “Ogi” backpack filled with clothes — were stolen. A man living on the same block reported that his Toyota 4Runner was also broken into. The thief stole tools and various documents from inside. The approximate loss is $100.
A Honda Odyssey was broken into in the 4000 block of 96th Avenue S.E., and the owner’s GPS unit was stolen. An unlocked vehicle in the 4300 block of 91st Avenue S.E. was entered and riffled through. Approximately $10 was reported stolen.
Found property
An Island man turned a BMW ignition key into police on Nov. 9 after he found it in the woods at Homestead Park. The key is being held as found property.
