Mercer Island runner second at state | State track & field results

After finishing in first place in his heat on Friday, Mercer Island sophomore Eric Schulz finished in second place in the boys 3A 800 meter event during this weekends state track meet. Schulz finished in 1:53.51, while Lakes Izaic Yorks finished in 1:50.56, setting a new state record by .40 seconds.

The Islander boys 4×100 relay team qualified for the finals, but the team of Risley Lesko, Nicholas Sinclair, Joshua Wong and Jeff Lindquist were disqualified in the finals. Bellevue went on to win the title in 42.30 seconds.

In the 4×400 relay race, Mercer Island took fourth overall in 3:25.29 with the group of Sinclair, Schulz, Daniel Mayer and Lindquist racing.

Senior Peter Brockway was sixth overall in the 3A javelin throw, with a toss of 172 feet 4 inches. The winning throw was 205’10.

Senior Carly Andersen finished sixth overall in the girls javelin competition, throwing 124’02, while teammate Lauren Ellis finished in seventh place with a best throw of 123’08. Andersen also competed in the girls discus, but did not place overall. Her best throw was 101’08.

Overall the girls team finished in 33rd place, while the boys tied for 19th place with Lynnwood.
