Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano told school board members the district is turning 75 in 2016. Mercer Island was incorporated as a K-8 school district Sept. 1, 1941, then referred to as King County No. 400.

“I plan to be talking about what we might do in recognition of our agency being this sort of diamond jubilee,” Plano said.
