Mercer Island School District launches back-to-school information page

With a few weeks of summer vacation remaining before the start of the school year, the Mercer Island School District has launched an information page for the 2022-2023 session.

For Mercer Island High School students’ first day of school on Aug. 31, freshmen will begin their day with an orientation at 8 a.m. followed by lunch at 11 a.m. Sophomores through seniors will start their days with a rotation of classes at 11:35 a.m. School will finish at 3 p.m.

Class schedules will be available in the Skyward Family Access program (http://mercerislandschools.org/faskyward) at 4 p.m. on Aug. 19.

On the sports front, first day of football and registration for all other fall sports will take place on Aug. 17, and a parents meeting is set for 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 29.

Over at Islander Middle School, Aug. 31 is also the first day of school and the early-release Wednesday schedule is from 8:25 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. Class schedules will be available in Skyward Family Access at 8 a.m. on Aug. 24. A welcome-back parent coffee is scheduled for 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Sept. 1.

In the elementary school realm, first- through fifth-graders will kick off their school year from 9:10 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. on Aug. 31. Open houses are scheduled for Aug. 30 at the following times: Island Park (11 a.m. to noon), Lakeridge (3 p.m.), Northwood (3-4 p.m.) and West Mercer (3-4 p.m., including teacher introductions).

Kindergartners will experience their first full day of school on Sept. 6 (see site for details). Their parents can attend welcome coffee events on that same day from 9:15-10 a.m. (Island Park), 9:30 a.m. (Lakeridge), 9:30-10 a.m. (Northwood) and 9:15-11 a.m. (West Mercer).
