In their first state game of the year, the Mercer Island boys soccer team shut down Prairie, winning 3-0.

The Islanders, who entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed from District 2, faced Prairie, a school out of Vancouver, Wash.

Alex Wood was the first to score during the game, hitting the mark off an assist by Alberto Perez in the 12th minute of the game. The same duo followed six minutes later with another goal to make it 2-0 before the half.

After the break, Perez earned a solo goal, unassisted, in the 66th minute to complete the game. Goalie Nico Terentjev was credited with the shutout.

With the win the Islanders move forward to Friday’s quarterfinal match. The team will host Mount Vernon, a team which beat Capital 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Friday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Mercer Island High School.

A win over Mount Vernon would move the Islanders into the semifinals, held Friday, May 25 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup againt the winner of the Mount Spokane versus Eastmont game on Saturday, May 19.
