Mercer Island students compete in math tournament

Mercer Island residents, fifth-grader R. Grady Short and fourth-grader Thomas Short, recently competed in the Math Is Cool Masters Tournament on May 19, with their fourth and fifth grade teams from Seattle Country Day School.

Mercer Island residents, fifth-grader R. Grady Short and fourth-grader Thomas Short, recently competed in the Math Is Cool Masters Tournament on May 19, with their fourth and fifth grade teams from Seattle Country Day School.

Grady Short’s fifth-grade team won second place in the Elite division, and Thomas Short’s fourth-grade team won first place in Division 1 at the math competition in Moses Lake.

The four-person teams tackled over 100 problems in six different events, with 94 other teams from all over the state.
