Boys tennis tops Skyline; girls swim and dive beats Spartans; Bellevue serves MI volleyball first loss.

Boys tennis tops Skyline

Mercer Island scored a non-league win over 4A opponent Skyline Tuesday, beating the Spartans 6-1 at MIHS.

The Islanders swept Skyline in singles action. Chris Elliott beat Brandon Khoo 6-2, 6-0, and Jake Bethards defeated Nikita Moroz 6-1, 6-1. Caden Conder won over Ankit Madhira 6-3, 6-1, and Jarod Wong registered a win over Geo Yong 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Christian Anderson and Ben Bethards beat Parker Matias and Ishaan Bhimani 6-1, 7-6(7), while Alex Banbury and Jonah Tang defeated Mitchell Hansen and Paul Kim 6-4, 6-0. Shawn Stanley and David Wong scored the win for Skyline, defeating Jared Walker and Max Boksem 6-3, 6-1.

Mercer Island will take on Issaquah at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Issaquah High School.

Girls swim and dive beats Spartans

Mercer Island girls swim and dive won their meet with Skyline Tuesday at Mary Wayte Pool, beating the Spartans 95-91.

The Islanders had winners in four events. Hadley Michaels earned the top score in the diving competition at 216.45.

Maeve Murdoch won the 200 free, finishing in 1:58.84. Sammie Edwards edged teammate Tess Ritcey by three-tenths of a second in the 50 free, winning at 25.47.

Mercer Island’s group of Edwards, Murdoch, Heather Robinson and Sabrina Kwan won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.81.

Next, the Islanders will host Bothell at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 at Mary Wayte Pool.

Bellevue serves MI volleyball first loss

Mercer Island volleyball suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Bellevue 3-2 Tuesday night at Bellevue High School.

The Islanders survived two hard-fought opening sets 26-24 and 28-26 before falling in the final three 22-25, 27-29, 11-15.

Next, the Islanders (10-1, 7-1 in KingCo) take on Lake Washington at 7 p.m. Thursday at LWHS. With a league record of 8-1, the Kangs lead Mercer Island by a half-game for first place in the 2A/3A KingCo standings.
