With a 7-3 win over Wilson, Mercer Island girls water polo earned a fifth-place finish at the 2015 state tournament Saturday, May 23 at Curtis Aquatic Center in University Place.

Mercer Island dropped its first-round matchup to eventual state champions Gig Harbor, falling 16-3 on May 21. The Tides, who would finish their season and the tournament undefeated, got six goals each from league MVP Emma Campbell and Most Valuable Defensive Player Alana Ponce.

The Islanders bounced back in the consolation bracket, defeating Auburn Riverside 11-4 on May 22. Mallory Phillips led the Islanders with four goals, while Alicia Nordal scored three, and Sophie Chang and Nola Peshkin each scored twice.

Enumclaw needed overtime to edge the Islanders 12-11 in their matchup on May 23, with Nordal and Phillips each posting four goals in the losing effort. Then behind another four goals from Phillips, the Islanders locked up fifth place with their 7-3 win over the Rams.

Mercer Island finished its season with a record of 6-3 in league play. Alicia Nordal, Mallory Phillips and Heather Robinson earned honorable mention for the 2015 All State Tournament Team.
