MI Senior Foundation events

Thank you for your ongoing coverage of Island events. The Senior Foundation Board appreciates the articles and invitations [printed in the Reporter] prior to the Fabulous Forties tea held on Oct. 11 at the Congregational Church. It included a fashion show provided by Mary Lewis of Goodwill Industries and eight volunteers. They gave a wonderful commentary about the 1940s and its styles.

Hundreds of volunteer hours went into this event, honoring 38 Islanders in their 80s, 90s and even one person who is almost 102 years old. Hearing each honoree’s name, their life’s work accomplishments and their theories about longevity was truly inspiring. Lynn Meyer and Rivean Smith were our auction coordinators. Our tea was provided by Elizabeth Borges, owner of Tea Treasures; Rachel, Alex, Ariela and Dakota of the MIHS Key Club were our amazing servers; and Terry Cole of Senior Financial Services was our MC. Sponsors were Aljoya House, Rose Marie Bussoof of The FACE, Bellettini, Margaret Brevig, Charlie Burdell, James and Doris Cassan, Chateau St. Laureut, John Condrin, Curves, Fin’s Bistro (Issaquah), Village Theatre, Frank Fujii, Hair It Is!, Vik Harinau, Island Books, Key Bank, Lolly Restaurant, Marian Manzari, Carol O. Berg Options for Seniors, Carol Pond (reflectologist), QFC, Pricilla Riley, Lynne Rodgers, Ann Schurman (massage therapist), Sunset Hills, Wang Family, Heidi Willey, Franca Martin, Yoga Bliss, Sar Pizza and Xan Scott. The event was photographed by Darolyn Quayle and individual family pictures were taken by board member Angela Decker.

Can you believe the number of individuals making this event a success?

Most of all, I want to thank Leslie Scott and Barbara Levenski, co-chairs of this program, who directed the rest of us with such grace. The funds raised were approximately $3,000 a portion to go to Club 24 for roles provided for our housebound care providers and medical check-ins.

Much gratitude goes to the Senior Foundation Board working for this community since 2002: Margy Corder, Franca Mercati Martin, Deane Osborne, Harriet Weiss, Martha Weiss, Carin Mach and Lynn Meyers The current board includes Debra Alderman, Patti Darling, Deane Kinman, Barbara Levinski, Rivean Smith and Leslie Scott.

Well done, good and faithful advocates for our senior adult Mercer Island population. It is an honor serving with all of you.
