MIHS debate brings home honors from tournament at Whitman College

Members of the Mercer Island High School debate team recently traveled to Whitman College for a tournament, where they had top five finishes. In the novice Lincoln-Douglas category, Nathan Cummings made the Octa-Finals, while Nick Clarke took fourth in impromptu speaking.

In the junior Lincoln-Douglas category, Mary Wingerson was first overall, and Max Goetschel was second in speaker points. Zach Gordy and Aaron Poor were first in the champ division of public forum, while Stephanie Permut and Sean Ghods made the semifinals in policy, while taking first and second respectively in speaker points. Lizzie Tao made the quarter finals in the champ division of Lincoln-Douglas and was second for speaker points. Teammate Steven Adler was first in the champ division of Lincoln-Douglas, winning the speaker points competition.
