The Mercer Island High School VEX Robotics team Slippery Penguins won the recent 62-team Cross Border Challenge Tournament at Bellingham High School.
The Penguins won six and lost one in the qualification rounds, securing the fourth-seed alliance. They advanced through three consecutive elimination matches to reach the final, where they defeated the Canadian alliance to claim the championship trophy.
This victory has also earned the team an early invitation to the Washington High School State Championship in mid-March.
