MIHS students place at journalism contest

Six Mercer Island High School (MIHS) journalism and yearbook students placed at the annual Washington Journalism Education Association (WJEA) write-off contest on March 9 at Arlington High School. The students competed against high school students from around the state and placed in all but one of the categories they entered. Superior: Jordan Balousek (news writing) and Ashwin Krishnaswamy (news feature writing). Excellent: Kyle Gerstel (editorial writing). Honorable mention: Maddie Gaspers (news photography), Mischa Gregory (yearbook photography) and Taylor Holshouser (news layout). In addition to competing, students attended breakout sessions led by industry professionals, including a session conducted by Lee Hardisty from the MIHS Class of 2022.
