Mercer Island Police Department school resource officer Olivia Phan recently visited second-graders at Northwood Elementary School in connection with their literacy unit titled “Government at Work.” Officer Phan spoke with students about the education and training required to become a police officer, the work that she does to support a safe Mercer Island community, the gear she uses to do her job and the ways that second-graders can be safe.
