MISD ranked second in state by Niche

School ranking website Niche has placed the Mercer Island School District (MISD) second on its 2026 list of best school districts in Washington state.

In the public elementary school realm in the state, West Mercer was ranked No. 1, Lakeridge ranked No. 2, Island Park ranked No. 4 and Northwood ranked No. 14.

Islander Middle School was ranked the No. 3 public middle school in the state and Mercer Island High School was ranked No. 6 for public high schools in the state.

“These outstanding rankings underscores the district’s dedication to building a caring community grounded in academic excellence, innovative learning and educators who inspire, support and uplift students every day,” MISD said.

Also on the Niche list, Mercer Island’s Northwest Yeshiva High School was ranked the No. 13 best Jewish school in America and the No. 14 best private high school in the Seattle area.

According to its website, Niche’s 2026 best schools and districts rankings combine user input with quantitative data to provide a comprehensive view of each school. Key factors include academics, teachers, resources, facilities, extracurriculars and more.
