Feb. 10

Theft: An employee of the Rite Aid on 78th Avenue Southeast reported at 10:04 a.m. that a male suspect had left the store with a shopping basket, with unknown contents, without paying.

Mail mischief: An Island woman at the 5200 block of W. Mercer Way said at 10:17 a.m. that her mailbox was pried open, but no mail was taken.

Burglary: An Island man reported an occupied burglary with forced entry at 11:23 a.m. at the 4200 block of 95th Ave. SE. An unknown amount of cash was stolen. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Assault: An Island man said he was assaulted after a road rage incident at 12:47 p.m. in the 2900 block of 78th Ave. SE.

Feb. 11

Bamboo: An Island man at the 3400 block of 77th Pl. SE reported at 9:47 a.m. that his bamboo plants were cut by a neighbor. Video footage and still shots show that the plants broke loose of their restraints and crossed over the property line, into the neighbor’s yard and impacting her birdhouse.

Forgery: At 11:09 a.m., a Lakewood woman reported that multiple online accounts were being altered and her airline miles were stolen by her ex-husband. The miles were later returned.

Feb. 12

Prowling: An Island man at the 4800 block of 90th Pl. SE reported at 10:20 a.m. that his unlocked vehicle was prowled overnight, and items were taken.

Another prowl: Two victim’s unlocked vehicles were prowled overnight at the 4800 block of 90th Pl. SE. Nothing was taken from either vehicle. The incident was reported at 10:51 a.m.

More prowling: At 10:54 a.m., a Seattle man said his locked vehicle was entered during the daytime by unknown means at the 3600 block of 73rd Ave. SE. A saw was taken, for a loss of $450.

Traffic offense: A 41-year-old Seattle man driving with flat tires was arrested at 6:02 p.m. at the 4700 block of Island Crest Way for driving with a suspended license. He was booked into Issaquah Jail.

Feb. 13

Warrant arrest: A 53-year-old Quincy man was arrested by Kent police on a Mercer Island warrant a little after midnight. He was transported to Issaquah Jail and booked.

Another arrest: A vehicle was stopped at 9:35 a.m. at the 3000 block of 84th Ave. SE due to failure to report sale. They were driving with a suspended license and had a former DUI charge. They were arrested, processed and released.

Mischief: An Island woman said at 1:12 p.m. that two bikes in the basement of the Shorewood apartment building at the 9000 block of E. Shorewood Drive had their front tires slashed.

Car theft: At 8:29 p.m., an Anchorage woman said her vehicle was stolen from her parent’s driveway at the 8900 block of SE 45th St.

Feb. 15

Prowling: An Island man said at 7:08 a.m. that his vehicle’s window was broken sometime overnight at the 7400 block of SE 71st St., and items were taken.

More prowling: Similar incidents happened at 9:35 a.m., when an Island woman said her driver’s side rear window was broken overnight at the 8400 block of 85th Ave. SE. It was unclear if anything had been taken. At 10:29 a.m. at the 8400 block of Benotho Pl., an Island woman said someone broke out the back window of her vehicle. Nothing of value appeared to have been taken. She found a cardboard box and a plastic sheet that had been in the vehicle halfway down the roadway.

Theft: An Island woman at the 9000 block of E. Shorewood Drive said at 11:45 a.m. that her front license plate was stolen.

Shoplifting: A suspect took a large bottle of protein powder from a store at the 3000 block of 78th Ave. SE and put it in his backpack. He was with another person, who bought a drink at the store.

Found property: A bicycle was found at the 4100 block of 83rd Ave. SE at 4:56 p.m., and secured in the police department’s sally port.

Informational report: A tree from the greenbelt that borders Homestead Field fell across 80th Ave. SE and damaged a fence at the 4100 block of the street at 5:08 p.m. The Mercer Island fire department cleared the roadway.

Feb. 16

Warrant arrest: At 2:45 a.m., police contacted a driver at the boat launch, at the 3600 block of E. Mercer Way, who was sleeping inside his vehicle and found to have a warrant from Kent police. He was arrested and given to Kent.

Mischief: Trees planted by the the city of Mercer Island on city property at the 2400 block of 84th Ave. SE were reported to have been dug up at 11:01 a.m.

More mischief: Someone broke out the outer plane of a double window of an office building, which is at sidewalk level, at the 7800 block of SE 27th St. at 3:12 p.m.

Suspicious package: Someone shipped a package to Nevada using an Issaquah woman’s initials and address, and the item was returned for insufficient postage. The package contained suspicious items believed to contain controlled substances. The incident was reported at the 8900 block of SE 54th St. at 3:15 p.m.

March 2

Theft: A suspect stole liquor from the north QFC at 9:34 p.m. and was contacted and arrested at the Park and Ride. The suspect was booked into SCORE Jail on theft charges, with potential VUSCA charges pending further investigation.

March 4

Burglary: A home at the 9800 block of SE 42nd Place was burglarized. Tools, equipment and materials were reported to be stolen at 8:35 a.m. A neighbor reported hearing a disturbance at 2 a.m. Police said this case is possibly related to other recent work site thefts.

Fraud: A 67-year-old Island man at the 9600 block of SE 72nd St. reported at 8:36 a.m. that 10 fraudulent transactions were made on his credit card account. He had been preparing to file his taxes.

Warrant arrest: An Island man was stopped for expired tabs and displaying a tab belonging to another vehicle at 11:06 a.m. at the 7800 block of N. Mercer Way. A DOL check on the man showed he was driving with a suspended license and had a warrant from the Kirkland police department. He was arrested and transferred into Kirkland’s custody.

Criminal impersonation: An Island woman at the 3700 block of 80th Ave. SE reported at 7:20 p.m. that her name and Social Security number were being used for employment, but she is unemployed due to medical issues.

Prowling: A 70-year-old Island woman said at 7:38 p.m. that her unsecured car was rummaged through at the 3600 block of 72nd Place SE. There was no damage reported to the car, and nothing was taken.

March 5

Traffic offenses: Mercer Island police stopped a vehicle for expired tabs at 11:13 a.m. at the 2400 block of 76th Ave. SE. The vehicle was displaying a 2016 tab belonging to a truck out of Sequim, and the driver admitted he was suspended. The truck owners were contacted and said their rear license plate tab had been stolen while they were in Seattle from Feb. 12 to Feb. 26. The driver was arrested and booked into SCORE Jail.
