New gallery opening this weekend

Clarke & Clarke, which features a range of items from Asian artifacts to Modern and Mid-century art, will open on Saturday.

The new location of Clarke & Clarke, an art and artifacts gallery, will be open April 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekly hours are yet to be determined.

Proprietors Ginny Clarke and Jim Clarke took over the Tatters locations at 7605 S.E. 27th St #105.

While setting up, they have given people passing by a glimpse into the gallery via a “peekaboo window.” Ginny said they can gauge the strong level of interest by the number of nose prints on the glass.

The focus in April and May will be on a “Global Adventure” in the selections being offered in the gallery, with art and antiques from Japan, China, Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Persia, the Philippines and the Americas. The gallery will also feature Modern and Mid-century Art, paintings, prints, art glass and studio pottery.

Clarke & Clarke has been known for offering unique and fairly priced treasures for more than 30 years – having moved from Pioneer Square to Santa Fe and then to Scottsdale. Clarke & Clarke is moving to Mercer Island from a warehouse in Redmond, which was open to the public several days a month.

“Our new location is a little gem of a space nestled in the midst of a grouping of shops and restaurants,” Ginny wrote in an email. “Come take a peek and find a treasure.”
