The playground area at Luther Burbank Park will be closed until later this summer as the the new playground is constructed.

The old equipment has been demolished and will be replaced with a new playground, including a zip line, climbing web, improved slides, merry go-round and safety surfacing.

The reopening of the park is expected around mid-July. While the park is closed, the city encourages families to use the other park on Mercer Island.

The new playground, part of the city’s 2013-2014 Capital Improvement Program, was funded in part by a $25,000 donation from the Mercer Island Preschool Association and an addition $14,000 from bricks auctioned.
