The Mercer Island City Council adopted an ordinance regulating the activities of door-to-door sales people and solicitors.  The new ordinance took effect Friday, Feb. 14.

The regulations require commercial (for-profit) solicitors to apply for a “soliciting license” with the Mercer Island City Clerk’s Office and carry the license at all times when soliciting. Solicitors must produce the license when requested by persons being solicited, police, or City officials. Under the new regulations, door-to-door soliciting is only allowed between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., including weekends and holidays.  Residents should note that there are a number of exemptions to the new license requirements.
