City council meeting headlines from Dec. 2.

The following headlines related to opportunities for community engagement are from the Dec. 2 Mercer Island City Council meeting:

Opportunities to Attend Community Special Events/Openings:

* Community Holiday Party from 6-8:30 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center will include treats, crafts, an appearance by Santa, a hot cocoa bar and a lantern making craft.

* Argosy Christmas Ship “coming by Mercer Island” from 8:30-9 p.m. on Dec. 19 and can be viewed from the Luther Burbank Park Beach or the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.

* Food insecurity: Mercer Island Youth and Family Services continues to accept donations to help Island residents experiencing food insecurity. More details can be found on its website, https://www.mercerisland.gov/yfs.

Opportunities to Learn More/Provide Feedback:

* City Council Meetings: The Dec. 16 city council meeting has been cancelled, with the next council meeting scheduled for Jan. 6.

* Gatherings With Councilmembers:

Councilmember Ted Weinberg will hold his next monthly gathering at noon for lunch on Dec. 20 at Riviera Maya Mexican restaurant on Mercer Island, providing an opportunity to discuss a variety of topics of interest for Mercer Island residents. Councilmember Julie Hsieh will be offering her first opportunity for a citizen gathering from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 15. RSVP Hsieh for more information on the location at juliehsieh@outlook.com.

* Council voted to pause the Flock pilot program, which includes cameras with automated license plate readers, and re-appropriate $15,000 to replace the police in-car camera system.
