Two men, 19 and 21, fled an underage drinking party in the 6600 block of S.E. 24th Street by running through neighbors’ properties on Sunday, July 22.

A 37-year-old man found the two strangers on the roof of a detached building in his yard after 2:49 a.m. Both subjects were identified and cited for malicious mischief. Later that morning, the victim discovered that the subjects broke a gutter when they climbed onto the roof.

Damages totaled $400.

July 22

Trespass: A 49-year-old man’s security camera recorded three subjects who entered the man’s gated property after dark, at 12:44 a.m., and stayed for 45 minutes in the 6800 block of West Mercer Way. The subjects did not damage or steal anything.

July 25

Accidents: A BMW struck a Mini Cooper at 1:45 p.m. in the intersection of Island Crest Way and S.E. 27th Street. The 62-year-old driver of the Mini Cooper reported neck pain and said that she stopped at a non-functioning light — due to the power outage that affected the North end — before proceeding into the intersection. The other driver said that he had a green light, but police could not verify the drivers’ statements about the lights because power was cycling throughout the area.

A vehicle pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle in the 7900 block of S.E. 72nd Street and was struck at 11:12 p.m. The driver, 23, was cited for failing to yield while entering the roadway. He said he looked before turning and did not see any vehicles coming. The driver of the oncoming vehicle slammed on his brakes but could not avoid the collision. Police observed the roadway and determined that the driver who was cited should have been able to see the headlights of the approaching vehicle in plenty of time.

Arrest: Police booked a 24-year-old Seattle woman into custody on a misdemeanor warrant at 5:15 p.m.

July 26

Thefts: A neighbor interrupted the theft of a large excavator at a construction site at 10:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Mercer Way. The neighbor, 67, reported a description of the suspect and suspect’s vehicle, and the excavator was recovered.

A 28-year-old man reported three stolen items for insurance purposes: XBox and PS3 video game platforms and a plasma TV. He said that either his girlfriend stole the items or they were taken from a storage unit sometime during the past year.

A 54-year-old man’s bicycle was stolen at Groveland Park in the 5800 block of 80th Avenue S.E. while it was unsecured. The bike had a saddle bag that contained the victim’s cell phone.

Broken window: Someone shattered a van’s rear side window in the 6500 block of 80th Avenue S.E. sometime overnight on July 23, but did not enter the vehicle. The damage totaled $650. The incident was reported at 7:20 a.m.

Burglary: Someone broke into a house in the 9300 block of S.E. 57th Street, west of East Mercer Way, at 4:48 p.m. The burglar forced a window open to enter the residence, damaging a metal latch. A gold bracelet was stolen out of a locked antique armoire in an upstairs bedroom, along with other items. The armoire’s door and lock were damaged. The house alarm was activated and the suspect fled through the front door. Fingerprints were lifted for evidence.

Accident: A Jeep struck a retaining wall at 7:13 p.m. while parking across the lot from Alpenland at 2707 78th Avenue S.E. The jeep then reversed and backed into an unoccupied Toyota sedan. Witnesses contacted the driver, a 19-year-old male, who fled the scene with three passengers. Police later found the driver and arrested him for DUI and hit-and-run. Police also arrested two intoxicated passengers for minor in possession.

July 28

Phone found: A cell phone found near S.E. 40th Street and Gallagher Hill was turned in at the police station at 6:21 p.m.

July 29

DUI: Police observed a Toyota Prius driving erratically at 10:35 p.m. while exiting westbound I-90 at Island Crest Way. Police stopped the vehicle in the 5400 block of Island Crest Way and found that the driver, a 61-year-old man, had been drinking. He was arrested for DUI and released to his wife.

July 30

Malicious mischief: Someone egged a house in the 4400 block of Forest Avenue S.E. at 3:55 a.m. and shattered the glass window pane of a 1929 French door.

A vehicle was also egged, but was not damaged.

Found: A child’s dirt bike and helmet were turned in at the police station at 5:45 p.m. after having been abandoned in an Island park for a few days.

Car prowls: Someone broke into an Audi in the lower level of the North Mercer park-and-ride between 8:10 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. A passenger window was broken and items were stolen, including a pair of women’s running shoes and a package of 20 bars of Lever soap.

Multiple items were stolen out of a Jeep at the Park on the Lid in the 2200 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. between 6:30 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. Someone broke a rear passenger window and stole a gold wedding ring, Timex watch, two backpacks, a wallet, checkbooks, $30 in cash, credit and debit cards, Android car chargers, entry and access cards, a shaver, Bluetooth headsets, Android tablet, thumb drives and a 150 GB hard drive. Fingerprints were lifted for evidence. The thief used the victim’s credit card for a $58 purchase.

Aug. 1

Fender-bender: A Toyota minivan rear-ended a Toyota Prius at 7:20 a.m. in the intersection of West Mercer Way and S.E. 24th Street while making a right-hand turn. The driver of the minivan was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign.
