With dry weather on the city’s side, contractors were able to complete resurfacing and striping work a bit ahead of schedule on the Luther Burbank Park pickleball courts. The eight courts were opened for play on June 9 and have been packed. From June 30-July 3, restoration on the Summer in the Wetland mural will occur and the two western-most courts closest to the mural wall will be closed during that time frame. According to the city, “With high court use, comes some issues. The recreation division is monitoring the courts and working on policies to address issues as they arise.” During her report at the city council June 17 meeting, City Manager Jessi Bon said they are looking for a better way for players to sign up for court use. She said there have been some arguments at the courts and some unofficial, non-sanctioned tournaments. She said the city was anticipating some of this happening when the courts reopened.
