Beer enthusiasts will be flocking to the Roanoke Inn on Monday to get a taste of the elusive Russian River, Calif., “Pliny the Younger” beer.

Pliny the Younger was Pliny the Elder’s nephew, in the case of this beer, the “Younger” is a triple IPA. Pliny the Younger is hopped three times more than Russian River’s standard IPA and is dry hopped four different times.

Only 50 gallons were made available for the entire state of Washington, according to Roanoke owner Dorothy Reeck.

“It didn’t have the hype like this last year,” she said.

Dana, a server at the Roanoke, said patrons will be limited to one glass, of approximately eight ounces, for $8. With an alcohol level of 10 to 11 percent, she said the effects will linger, along with the taste.

“It’s really hoppy — I think people will really like it,” Dana said.

The Roanoke received about half of a pony keg, or about 85 glasses. After that, it’s gone.

The keg will be tapped starting at 4 p.m. Dana estimates it will be gone in 10 minutes.
