A 17-year-old Islander got a headache and small cut above his eye after he was in a head-on collision in the intersection of S.E. 42nd Street and 85th Avenue S.E. around 7:30 a.m. on May 23. According to the incident report, another vehicle driven by a 37-year-old Seattle man taking a left turn pulled in front of the teen.

Auto accidents

A 17-year-old Islander got a headache and small cut above his eye after he was in a head-on collision in the intersection of S.E. 42nd Street and 85th Avenue S.E. around 7:30 a.m. on May 23. The Island’s new fire truck distracted a driver and led to a three-car collision outside the post office and North end fire station around 5 p.m. on May 22. According to the incident report, a 49-year-old Islander took his eye off the road to look at the new fire truck that was getting washed and rear-ended a car behind another waiting to turn left into the post office parking lot.

A dump truck driver was distracted by a pedestrian and struck a parked car in the 2500 block of 81st Avenue S.E. around 3 p.m. on May 21.

A 44-year-old Island resident broke at least two fingers when she fell off her bicycle in the 3200 block of West Mercer Way around 10 a.m. on May 21.

A rear-end collision occurred in the 5300 block of Island Crest Way after a vehicle stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the street around 11 a.m. on May 17.

Burglary

A burglary was interrupted as a suspect left behind some tools and a ring of keys at a home in the 3900 block of 88th Avenue S.E. sometime before 7 p.m., May 22. While nothing was missing, police found two hammers and three screwdrivers in addition to the ring of keys in the home. It appeared that the burglar broke in through a downstairs back door.

Dog fight

A white English bulldog attacked another dog and bit a woman’s hand while she was walking in the 6400 block of 77th Avenue S.E. around 3 p.m., May 16. According to the incident report, the bulldog emerged from a driveway and began fighting the 42-year-old victim’s dog. The victim tried to separate the dogs and was bitten on the hand.

Theft

A 22-year-old Islander’s wallet was either lost or stolen while he was at the Mercer Island Beach Club around 11 a.m. on May 21.

A 49-year-old Island resident has recently received phone calls from debt collectors, six years after someone fraudulently opened a cell phone account in his name.

A wallet containing several credit and debit cards as well as a driver’s license was stolen from an unlocked truck in the 3200 block of Island Crest Way on the evening of May 19.

A dashboard CD player was stolen from a boat in the 6900 block of 96th Avenue S.E. sometime between Feb. 15 and May 18. The approximate value of the stereo is $300.

A rock was used to smash a window and a black purse was stolen from a car parked in the south lot of Luther Burbank Park the evening of May 17.

Arrests

A 30-year-old Kirkland man was arrested by the Island’s marine patrol near Medina for operating a boat while drunk in Lake Washington around 5 p.m. on May 17.

Police arrested a 44-year-old Bothell man suspected to be under the influence of narcotics after he crashed his van into a guardrail and mailbox in the 7800 block of West Mercer Way around 2:10 p.m. on May 17.

Five Island teens were arrested for possessing alcohol, a marijuana pipe and illegal fireworks while at Clarke Beach around 8 p.m. on May 16. According to the incident report, the Bellevue bomb squad was called to handle the fireworks because they were in very bad condition. The boys were released to their parents at the scene, except for the teen who had the marijuana pipe. He was processed at the police station.

Correction

A police report last week regarding a teen drinking party in a South end neighborhood on the night of the high school prom incorrectly stated that a 42-year-old homeowner was arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors and that 23 juveniles were cited for drinking. The report should have stated that police contacted 23 minors and two homeowners at the scene. Several of these juveniles were later cited by the city’s prosecutor for possessing or consuming alcohol. The 47-year-old homeowner was also later cited for furnishing alcohol to minors.
