EMBEZZLEMENT: Over a period of six months, between December 15 of 2013 and June 26 of this year, an employee of the Mercer Island McDonalds embezzled $14,667, through payroll fraud. The suspect is a 28-year-old Edmonds man. Police weren’t able to release any further information as this investigation is ongoing.
THEFT: A Bellevue couple told police they’d renewed two Canadian passports which had shipped from Canada on June 24. According to FedEx they were delivered on June 26. The couple said they’d never received them and had been communicating with FedEx. The FedEx driver said that somebody had signed for them and the driver placed them in the mailbox when he couldn’t find the house address. The reporting party spoke to his neighbors who said they’d never seen the FedEx driver or anyone signing for the package.
FRAUD: A 56-year-old Island man reported his financial information compromised. It was used to wire money directly to suspects. His wife reported the same incident a week before. It’s unclear if the suspect actually received the money, but the suspect’s information and address were obtained.
CAR THEFT: A Toyota Prius parked in the Shorewood lot north of S.E. 36th St. in the 8800 block on June 22 went missing between Sunday and Friday. Nothing of value was in the vehicle and the owner, a 45-year-old Island woman, said it had been locked when she left it. It was later found on Sunset Blvd. No usable evidence was collected.
THEFT: A 23-year-old woman employee of QFC said she’d seen a black man in his late 20s with a black backpack that looked very full, walk out the front door. When she followed the suspect, he ran off. She reviewed video footage and saw the man place a dozen bottles of Grey Goose vodka in a cart, then push it to the rear of the store. When the suspect left the store he had no cart and hadn’t purchased any items. Losses were estimated at $797. The suspect was wearing a pink button-down shirt, black baseball cap and white shoes.

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: Around 12:20 p.m. on Saturday, a bicyclist struck the middle wooden sidewalk block at the West side of the intersection of North Mercer Way and 81st Ave. S.E., on the Southeast corner of the Park-and-Ride. The rider was seen by the Mercer Island Fire Department but refused transport to the hospital. He reported neck and lower back pain, a sore jaw and sustained a cut to his upper lip and a skinned chin.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: A bank of mailboxes in the 5200 block of W. Mercer Way were broken into overnight. It’s unknown if any mail was taken. At least four reported their mailboxes broken into.
THEFT: Between 7:05 and 7:10 p.m. a suspect shoplifted about $70 worth of merchandise from Rite Aid. The stolen items included a pocket radio, a cellphone charger and a Bluetooth speaker.

CAR PROWL: Sometime between midnight and 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the 2800 block of 78th Ave. S.E., a black Escalade Cadillac had its rear passenger window broken. Two small flashlights were taken and the damages were estimated at $500.
CAR PROWL: A car in the 7800 block of 78th Ave. S.E. had its window shattered and the vehicle searched. The car prowl took place sometime between 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. on Monday. The window was shattered and the vehicle had been visibly searched. But nothing was reported stolen. The owner estimated damages came to $300.
ANIMAL COMPLAINTS: Around noon on Monday, two dogs got into a scuffle near the Albertsons on Mercer Island. One was later taken to a vet clinic to determine if it had any injuries. A police report was filed so that it could be forwarded to Animal Control.

THEFT: A 54-year-old Island man believes his front license plate was stolen from his car during a trip to Oregon and Vancouver, B.C. When he returned to Washington from Canada, border patrol informed him that his license plate was missing.
MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: Sometime between noon on Tuesday and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, a locked mailbox in the 8700 block of S.E. 44th Pl. was pried open and damaged. It’s unknown if any mail was taken.

THEFT: A 94-year-old Island man reported his mail stolen from his mailbox when he returned from a trip. The items disappeared sometime between Jul. 2 and 3.
THEFT: Somebody stole a check that was sent to Mary Wayte Pool from the Children’s Institute. The check was stolen from the Pool’s mailbox and cashed to the suspect.

ACCIDENT: A car parked legally in the Mercer Island Shore Club lot was damaged when another car backed into it. A male passenger got out to review the damage and drove off without exchanging contact information. Two witnesses reported the incident.
THEFT: A suspect stole three bottles of liquor from the North-end QFC around 2:15 a.m–two bottles of Captain Morgan’s rum and a bottle of Bacardi Gold rum.

THEFT: A bike belonging to a 16-year-old Island boy was stolen from a garage in the 4100 block of 86th Ave. S.E. between June 27 and July 3. The boy said the garage was not locked during that period and he was uncertain if the door had been left open. The stolen bike had an estimated value of $300.
