Police Blotter | Man arrested after walking in I-90 express lanes

Islanders report residential burglaries, vandalism and car prowls.

December 19

Burglary: A 92-year-old male and 74-year-old female at the 3200 block of 74th Avenue S.E. said that they were away from home, and when they came back, they found that a side door had been forced open. Nothing appeared to be missing, except a pillow case from the master bedroom. Police said it was likely an interrupted burglary. The woman later told the Reporter that her gold and pearls had been stolen, and the damage to the door was $5,000.

January 3

Burglary: A 66-year-old female and 67-year-old male who live at the 9200 block of S.E. 46th Street came home from a trip and realized that several pieces of jewelry, including a watch and a few bracelets, had been stolen. Police took the jewelry boxes for processing.

January 5

Prowling: A 60-year-old Federal Way woman said that her car, which was parked at the south Luther Burbank lot, was broken into. The passenger side front window was smashed, but nothing was taken.

Prowling: A 32-year-old Seattle woman reported that her vehicle was prowled at the 2000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. The passenger window was broken, for a loss of $200, and the victim’s purse was taken. The purse contained her driver’s license, Harborview ID badge, debit card and three credit cards.

January 6

Malicious mischief: A 27-year-old Seattle man reported that there was graffiti on the north and east walls of the city-owned Furnace building at the 2000 block of 84th Avenue S.E., and three windows were broken on the north side. The total damage is $1,000.

Theft: A 34-year-old Island woman reported the theft of her Cannondale bicycle and steel chain bicycle lock at the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E.

January 7

Fraud: A 46-year-old Island woman at the 3600 block of West Mercer Way said that an unknown person engaged in unauthorized and fraudulent securities transactions using her identity, resulting in nearly $100,000 in tax obligations.

Collision: A 22-year-old Island man was charged with following too close after rear ending another vehicle at the 4700 block of Island Crest Way.

January 7

Theft: A 30-year-old Island male at the 3500 block of 88th Avenue S.E. said that his rear license plate was taken and replaced with a different rear plate.

Malicious mischief: A city pump station at the 2200 block of 60th Avenue S.E. was tagged with graffiti, and the surrounding area in the park was torn up by tire tracks. Estimated damage is $500.

January 8

Warrant arrest: Island police arrested a 41-year-old Seattle man with a warrant for a Mercer Island local misdemeanor, and booked him into Issaquah Jail.

Malicious mischief: A 32-year-old Island woman at the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street reported that her car door had been keyed.

Warrant arrest: A 24-year-old Des Moines man at SCORE Jail came up on a Mercer Island Municipal Court warrant charge. He was rebooked into SCORE on the warrant.

Lost property: A 78-year-old Island woman at the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. tripped and fell, and lost her diamond ring with a platinum band.

Prowling: Someone smashed the window of a car belonging to a 45-year-old Island woman at the 2000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. and took her purse from the back seat. The purse contained a check, gift cards, a makeup bag, keys and an Overlake hospital work badge.

Theft:  A 76-year-old female at the 1800 block of 70th Avenue S.E. reported that she was informed by her bank that someone had tried to open a new account using her information, but the bank flagged the application as fraudulent.

January 9

Warrant arrest: A 61-year-old Seattle man was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant at the 4500 block of eastbound I-90 after walking in the express lanes.

Warrant arrest: Police arrested a 39-year-old Arlington man at the 7400 block of East Mercer Way after the man was stopped for an equipment violation, and had a misdemeanor warrant out of Marysville. He was transported to Marysville for booking.

Burglary: A 61-year-old Island man reported that someone forced entry into his home at the 7400 block of S.E. 29th Street and stole his wallet and electronic devices including a GPS, two iPods and three Apple desktop computers, for a loss of $8,000.

January 11

Burglary: A 20-year-old Island man reported a forced entry attempted burglary and damage of a double pane glass sliding door at the 3000 block of 70th Avenue S.E.

Theft: A 58-year-old male said that his 2015 car tab was removed from the back of his vehicle license plate at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street.
