Police catch car prowl suspects leaving Luther Burbank Park | Mercer Island Police Blotter

Two witnesses saw a car prowl occur in the south lot of Luther Burbank Park at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 20. Police stopped the suspect vehicle as it was leaving the vicinity and arrested two of three suspects, Seattle residents in their 20s. One suspect was arrested for unrelated charges, with counts of violating a court order related to harassment, and driving with a suspended license.

Two witnesses saw a car prowl occur in the south lot of Luther Burbank Park at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 20. Police stopped the suspect vehicle as it was leaving the vicinity and arrested two of three suspects, Seattle men, ages 25 and 26. One suspect was arrested for unrelated charges, with counts of violating a court order related to harassment, and driving with a suspended license. The third suspect was a 29-year-old Seattle woman. Two purses and a pair of shoes were stolen out of the vehicle, a Ford Escape. The driver’s window was destroyed, and police found a shard of glass in the sweatshirt of one suspect, in addition to a metal window punch tool in the suspect’s pocket.

March 12

Car prowl: A computer laptop was stolen out of a Honda Pilot at a residence in the 4000 block of 78th Avenue S.E. between 11 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. A hard drive and accessories were also stolen after a window in the vehicle was broken.

March 16

Warrant arrest: Police arrested a Lynnwood woman, 45, at 9:19 p.m. in the 7800 block of North Mercer Way. The woman was driving a vehicle with a broken taillight. Her license had been suspended, and she was transferred into the custody of Mountlake Terrace police on a misdemeanor warrant.

March 18

Arrest: Police arrested a Mercer Island man, 49, at 12:24 a.m. for threatening to kill someone. The man damaged his room and facility equipment at Mercer Island Care and Rehabilitation.

Arrest: A Seattle man, 27, was arrested at 7:22 a.m. in the 9500 block of eastbound I-90 for driving with a suspended license.

March 19

Malicious mischief: Two occupants of a sedan bashed mailboxes in the 6100 block of West Mercer Way after midnight. The incident was reported by a man who last saw the vehicle heading southbound on West Mercer Way.

March 20

Hit and run: A Mercer Island man, 44, drove into the rear corner of a vehicle at 4:20 p.m. as he was parking at the North end QFC. The vehicle was occupied, and the occupant called her husband and 911. The suspect was unresponsive and looked intoxicated as the victim’s husband photographed the suspect vehicle. The suspect then drove away, and his front license plate was left at the scene. Police found him at his residence within 15 minutes and arrested him for DUI and leaving the scene.

DUI: Police arrested a Shoreline woman, 39, for a DUI hit and run at 10:25 p.m. in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. Her vehicle struck an electric gate, cement wall and Honda sedan. The sedan’s rear bumper was damaged. The suspect did not stop to provide information for the victim of the accident.

Accident: “Significant force” caused a Honda Civic parked in the lower level of a parking garage in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. to be pushed into an adjacent stall sometime after 7 p.m. The driver side bumper was damaged. The incident might have been related to the DUI case involving a Shoreline woman.

March 21

DUI: A Mercer Island man, 33, was arrested for DUI at 12:53 a.m. in the 4400 block of East Mercer Way after he was stopped for an equipment infraction. He admitted he had been drinking alcoholic beverages, but refused standard field sobriety tests. His vehicle remained at the scene on a waiver of impound.

Theft: A grandson stole a gold heart pendant, three gold bracelets and two gold rings from the residence of his 72-year-old grandmother on S.E. 29th Street between November 2010 and Feb. 10, 2011, while he was living with her. Redmond police recovered the jewelry and other stolen property from the suspect, a 23-year-old man who remains in custody after his arrest in February. The woman reported the theft at 4:30 p.m.

March 22

Accident: An unoccupied vehicle parked in the medical building lot in the 3200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. was struck around 10:30 a.m. The corner of the vehicle’s rear bumper had superficial paint damage.

Fireworks: A thrift store employee found a box of fireworks and a price-tagged box of BB rounds that had been donated. The employee did not know who donated the items, which were placed into MIPD evidence to be destroyed.

March 23

Sailboat recovered: A 16-foot sailboat floating unoccupied against the north side of the I-90 bridge was discovered by WSDOT employees at 9 a.m. The MIPD put the boat into secure storage.

March 24

Reckless burning: A police officer found three 16-year-old boys burning paper in the upper parking garage of the Island Square Apartments at 5:18 p.m. in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. Fire damaged the insulation of the building owners’ dishwashing machine in a corner of the garage. After the boys’ parents were contacted, the boys were released to each of their parents at the scene.
