Stolen license plate

Between Nov. 9 and Dec. 9, someone stole a license plate from a vehicle in the 7000 block of West Mercer Way. There are no suspects.

Suspicious circumstances

At about 5:30 a.m., Dec. 8, an attendant at Sun Bridge Care Center, 7447 S.E. 24th St., questioned a suspicious person who appeared to have been trying to enter one of the medications rooms at the center. The person left without answering questions. At 1:45 p.m., a resident of the center reported a missing cosmetics bag, valued at about $300.

Up on the rooftop

Police arrested two Island juveniles at about 7:40 a.m., Dec. 7, after the two boys were found on the rooftop of the north QFC, 7823 S.E. 28th St. The teens had broken into a roof access. They were removed from the rooftop by the Mercer Island Fire Department, arrested and released to their parents.

There arose such a clatter

A resident of the 4000 block of 91st Avenue S.E. awoke at about 2:45 a.m., Dec. 8, due to a banging sound outside the home. The resident observed a vehicle parked in front of her house and someone banging on the neighbor’s Mitsubishi Galant. When police arrived, the suspect was gone but the Mitsubishi had four flat tires, damage to the front passenger window and mirror.

Slippery shoplifter

South-end QFC employees reported at 6 p.m., Dec. 7, that a man was seen stealing a cart full of groceries from the store, at 8421 S.E. 68th St. The employees followed the man out to the parking lot and observed the stolen groceries inside the man’s car. When they confronted the man, he took off on foot eastbound on S.E. 68th Street. The car, a gold 1987 Honda Accord is registered to a Seattle man.

DUI

A Duvall woman was arrested at 7:40 p.m., Dec. 6, after she was observed driving without her car’s headlights activated. Police stopped the vehicle and found she had been drinking and had open alcohol containers in the vehicle, which had two flat tires. The woman was arrested, processed and released. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Thefts

At 11:30 a.m. , Nov. 23, a Kirkland resident reported that someone stole $100 from a storage cabinet in the 7500 block of S.E. 24th Street.

An 89-year-old resident of the 7800 block of S.E. 30th Street told police that sometime between March and Nov. 27 someone stole various items of jewelry from her. The missing items include a rosebud ceramic pin, a large ruby ring, an antique woman’s watch with diamonds, and sterling silver stud earrings. The items are believed to have disappeared when the woman moved within the residence.

Identity thefts

A resident of the 2400 block of 60th Avenue S.E. reported that someone on Nov. 28 made two unauthorized transactions on his credit card. The account has been closed. The charges amounted to $1109.76.

A resident of the 9100 block of Fortuna Drive reported Dec. 5 that she was called by someone claiming to be from her bank. The suspect acquired personal information and then is believed to have made charges on the victim’s credit cards.

Malicious mischief

At 10 p.m., Dec. 4, an Island resident returned to her 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser, at a friend’s house in the 7500 block of S.E. 29th Street, and found that someone had broken the antennae off the vehicle and bent one of the windshield wipers. Damage is estimated at $250.

Sometime between Dec. 2 and Dec. 5, someone drove a vehicle over several plantings and damaged a small tree in the 5400 block of Island Crest Way. Damage is estimated at $300.

Sonic Charged

King County prosecutors have charged Seattle SuperSonics forward Rashard Lewis with drunken driving, following a traffic stop on Mercer Island in late September.

A resident of Mercer Island, Lewis, 26, was driving one of five eastbound cars on I-90 that a State Patrol trooper spotted speeding together at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 30, charging papers state.

Trooper Curt G. Boyle said he paced a green 2004 7-series BMW at more than 80 mph, before pulling it over.

Two blood-alcohol tests taken less than an hour later measured Lewis’ blood-alcohol level at 0.132 percent and 0.122 percent, the court documents state. The legal limit in Washington is 0.08 percent.

The driver of a second car that was stopped, Gregory S. Stern, also has been charged with drunken driving, King County prosecutor’s spokesman Dan Donohoe said.
