Cash gone

A woman told police Jan. 5 that someone stole $11,000 from a safe in her apartment in the 9100 block of Fortuna Drive. Other valuables in the safe were undisturbed.

Drug arrests

Police responded Jan. 5 to a report of simple assault that occurred in the 4500 block of 89th Avenue S.E. When the officers contacted the 15-year-old suspect, they discovered he had marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

Officers responding Jan. 4 to a possible burglary in progress at a home in the 4500 block of 87th Avenue S.E. instead found several boys partying and evidence of marijuana use. One 18-year-old Bellevue boy was arrested and released to his father.

Check taken

A woman who lives on Evergreen Lane called police Jan. 4 after a $14,000 check she had been expecting did not appear, although it had been delivered to her mailbox.

Signs removed

A resident of the 4200 block of 88th Avenue S.E. reported that a “No parking” sign had been stolen. It appeared that someone used a vehicle to push the post out of the ground, according to a police report taken Jan. 4.

Identity theft

After receiving a letter from a collection agency about a delinquent account in Florida, an Island resident called police Jan. 5 to report that someone must be using her personal identification information, since she has never lived in Florida.

Burglary

Someone entered an open garage at a home in the 4400 block of 92nd Avenue S.E. and stole a cell phone, sunglasses, gloves and CDs from an unlocked 2000 Chevrolet Suburban inside, the victim told police Dec. 31.

Theft from car

A Mercer Island woman who left her purse in her car while it was parked at the south Luther Burbank parking lot called police Jan. 2 to report that the vehicle was broken into. Someone had smashed the driver’s window of the gray 1989 Toyota Landcruiser and stolen her purse.

Malicious mischief

Someone damaged the mailboxes at five homes in the 6100 block of 92nd Avenue S.E. and 93rd Avenue S.E. Damage was estimated at $500, according to a report taken Jan. 1.

Decorations gone

Someone stole a lighted reindeer, angel and three sets of lights from the yard of a home in the 8200 block of S.E. 72nd Street, the victim told police Jan. 1.

Lost and found

Police were called Jan. 3 to Lakeridge Elementary School, 8215 S.E. 78th St., about a 2-foot-by-3-foot plastic camel found on the playground. As there were no reports of a stolen camel on the Island, officers logged the camel into found property, a report said
