Police report: Schools lockdown lifted after what was likely a false burglary claim with weapon

According to the Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD), a resident placed a 911 call shortly after 2:30 p.m. today in the 8600 block of Southeast 40th Street claiming a burglary with a weapon was in progress nearby.

An MIPD social media post noted that officers were dispatched immediately to the scene. While an investigation was underway, nearby schools were advised to follow their lockdown procedures out of an abundance of caution.

“It was determined that this was likely a false claim by the caller, and no danger existed to the public. At 2:49 p.m., schools were advised to lift their lockdown order,” police said in the post.
