Public Works crews tackle copious tasks during snow storm

As of Jan. 4, Mercer Island Public Works crews had used 75 cubic yards of salt, 30 cubic yards of sand and 2,200 gallons of liquid deicer to treat city streets during the recent snow storm, according to a report at the city council meeting. During the 11-day period from Dec. 25 to Jan. 4, a smaller staff — due to holiday schedules — plowed roads, managed 11 road closures, responded to fallen trees on the roadway, completed a water main repair, conducted stormwater piping clearing and responded to freezing issues at the city’s reservoir tanks.
