Crosswalks are not optional
The Mercer Island Police Department posted the following message on its Facebook page:
Drivers — failing to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk isn’t just dangerous, it’s illegal.
Here are a few reminders:
Drivers must stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
Stay stopped until the pedestrian has completely passed your lane.
Never pass another vehicle that is stopped for someone crossing.
Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe for everyone.
